Marker commemorating the discovery of the Corsicana Oil Field in 1894, the first major commercial oil field in Texas.
The discovery well was drilled June 9, 1894. By 1897, the field had 287 producing wells. The Corsicana oil field established Texas as a petroleum producer and led directly to the development of the Texas oil industry.
